"Brithdir Mawr - The Large Speckled Land".

This series of photographs explores the alternative lifestyle of Brithdir Mawr, an Eco-community that is situated at the foot of the Priseli Mountains in Pembrokeshire. It is a community that consists of eight adults and five children. The eight adults that are resident at Brithdir are people that have had diverse careers and jobs such as; a mathematician, historian, nurse, despatch rider, African Culture expert, wood turner, architect and plumber. Together they combine their skills and knowledge in order to seek an alternative life that is not only conducive to their own lives but also to the environment around them. The fruit of their hard labour with the land brings them the success of a sustained way of life, and it brings them together in unity.
Learning about one's role in life is not only important for the adults but also for the children. The children attend informal classes and are taught English, Maths and History by three adults of community. By the age of eleven some will have taken their GCSE's in all three subjects.

The Eco-village movement represents recognition of the need to learn and develop radically new forms of settlement, which will enable the human race to avoid generating problems of resource depletion and environmental damage. Brithdir Mawr is part of this embodiment and represents the hope that others in society may follow in one way or another their example of unity.

They are a gentle and meditative people who hope their sense of community will in some ways questions the unnecessary isolation and loneliness that exists in today's society. These photographs serve as an essay, which depict how possible it is to live in a community, instilling a sense of respect and understanding towards fellow human beings.
